PUA20622 Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operations)
Course Overview
The Certificate II in Public Safety (Firefighting and Emergency Operation) course is designed for introductory level firefighting and emergency response professionals who respond to disasters and/or incidents that endanger life, property and the environment, as a member of a firefighting team.
The role of a firefighter at this level is to suppress and extinguish fires, undertake rescue, respond to hazardous materials incidents, to protect lives and to prevent the destruction of property and the environment. To prevent fires from starting and to improve community safety, a firefighter’s duties may include participating in community education programs about fire and community safety and contributing to fire inspections of locations to verify adherence to local fire regulations.
This qualification includes the units of competency required by firefighters to respond to urban fire incidents and to perform a range of other related activities. At this level, firefighters generally work under supervision and have limited discretion in selecting equipment, and determining tactics

To receive this qualification you must successfully complete this course, you must satisfactorily complete all course assessment requirements.
11 units, 8 core and 3 electives.
Duration
The expected completion time is 12 months from enrolment date.
This time period is inclusive of all teaching, learning and assessment activities required to achieve course outcomes. It should be noted that there is considerable flexibility in the time allocated for course completion, such flexibility acknowledges that individual students may require less or more time to achieve course outcomes.
Pre-requisites
There are no formal pre-requisites required for entry into this qualification, However a number of units has pre-requisites which will be completed during the course.

RTO Entry Requirements
Students must satisfactorily complete a language, numeracy and literacy assessment prior to or on course commencement to assess capacity to meet the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the course.
Students will also need to have the physical capacity to undertake the practical components of this course.
Delivery
Delivery modes include classroom lead training sessions and written assessments.
Training
The course is facilitated by a highly experienced training team, and includes trainer presentations, small group work, and lots of opportunity for practical hands on activities.
Assessment
A range of assessment methods are used to monitor student progress and assess competence. Knowledge checks and practical skill demonstrations are used across all units, some units also require written activities to be completed. Throughout the course trainers are available to assist and support students in their learning journey and in the completion of assessment requirements.
Employment Outcomes
Students who are successful in gaining this qualification can expect to be eligible for jobs in the emergency response sector within the mining and resources industry.
